WAITARA NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Nov. 22. The need for a commodious hall, suitable for dancing, has been met by the Clifton Rowing Club, enlarging their hail by an additional space of 12ft. by 58ft., the total space now being 36ft. by 58ft. Apart from the enlargement, modern conveniences have been installed, with also improved ventilation devices. The elub is to be congratulated on its enterprise, and it is quite evident that it will be rewarded. At a committee meeting of the Rowing Club held at the week-end, the secretary reported having received a cash donation from Mr. F. Moekett and an .offer from the same gentleman to provide trophies. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of thanks. Mr. T. Fowler has also kindly donated a trophy for the best improved rower and also a mirror fox- the ladies’ dressing-: oom. The drawing took place for the competition to be held on December 11. Nine crews have entered and practice on the river is a nightly occurrence. Nine new members were elected. After* several postponements, owing to the inclemency of the weather, the Waitara Tennis Club were able on Thursday last to open their courts for the season. Air. H. E. Vaughan (president), in declaring the courts open, referred to the difficulty the club had experienced in maintaining the courts, and appealed to the men players to sacrifice a little time in rolling the c-ourts and helping generally, so that they could be kept up to a playing standard. The first consideration was the enjoyment of all, so that when the gear was packed away they could look back on the season with pleasant memories. The president was heartily applauded, and five courts were then occupied until dusk.
