FORGERY BY A CHILD
TERM IN BOSTAL INSTITUTE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wanganui, Nov. 20. It was unique to see a small boy, 'under 15 years, in the dock at the Supreme Court this morning, he having pleaded guilty to a charge of forging his employer’s name for 16s. The Magistrate, Mr. Barton, during the sitting of the Child Welfare Court, decided he had no power to deal with a boy on an indictable offence. His Honour said that, although this boy was thoroughly bad, he agreed that it was very unfortunate that the Act was eo worded that the Magistrate had not the power to deal with these eases. The whole thing was a muddle and the Aet wanted thorough overhaul. The boy was sentenced to three reformative treatment, the judge inti- - mating that he would be placed immediately in a Borstal institution.
