THE LEVIN TRAGEDY
INQUEST ON THE VICTIMS. SLOMAN SENT FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Pr«a Association. Palmerston North, Nov. 19. The circumstances surrounding the tragedy at Levin on the morning of November 5, when it was discovered that an attempt had been made to wipe out a whole family, were inquired into in the courthouse this morning, when inquests were held concurrently on Margaret Abigail Sloman, wife of William George Sloman, and Rita Sloman, their daughter, and later two charges of murder were preferred against Sloman. After hearing evidence, including the reading of the letters left by Sloman, stating that he had sent* his family to heaven as his brain seemed to have gone and he could not leave them behind, the coroner returned a verdict that death in botjj instances resulted from injuries inflicted by Sloman, who was committed for trial on a charge of the murder of his wife and daughter.
