EMPIRE WIRELESS CHAIN
EIGHT GIGANTIC STATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Nov. 19. An Empire chain of super-broadcast-ing stations is at present occupying the attention of wireless experts and engineers. Though there is no official sanction at the moment, those in intimate touch with the position say the scheme is likely to commend itself. The estimated cost is haff a million. The chain would consist of eight gigantie stations working with twice the power of the Daventry station and would link up the Empire by means of a combination of wireless and land lines. British programmes could be broadcasted to India, South Africa, Canada and Australia. It is suggested that the stations might bo located at Monkton, Vancouver, Fanning Island, Sydney, Perth, Colombo, Bombay and Malta. Daventry could be the jumping-off place for transmission from Britain. In order that the stations might receive the programmes at suitable times a 24-hour service would be essential. There is also the Marconi suggestion that beam wireless should supersede the existing methods. . This would be more economical, rendering high power unnecessary.
