THE NEWS’ CHRISTMAS COMPETITIONS
again the time approaches for THE DAILY NEWS’ annual competitions. For our 1926 Christmas Number we are seeking original and hitherto unpublished short stories, essays and sketches. As usual, we offer attractive rewards for the performances in each section. These are the competitions:— SHORT STORIES.—(Not to exceed 3000 words, approximately three columns). First prize £3 3s; second prize £2 2s. One guinea will be paid for each story (other than the two prize-win-ning efforts) that is published. SKETCHES.—-(Original and hitherto unpublished black and white sketch, landscape, or still life, or a cartoon dealing with life in Taranaki). First prize £2 2s; second prize £1 Is. One guinea will be paid for each sketch (other than the two prize-win-ners) that is published. CHILDREN’S ESSAYS.—(Subject: “An Incident or Experience in Taranaki.” First prize £1 Is; second prize 10s 6d. CONOJTIONS.—The decision of the Editor shall be final. Manuscript of short stories should, if posible, be typed, and be forwarded to THE DAILY NEWS office, New Plymouth, in a flat package, clearly marked "Christmas Story Competitions.” The last folio should contain the name and address of the competitor, and stamps mut be enclosed for return in the event of copy being unacceptable. In the essay competition the age of the competitor should be stated. Entries close on November 20, with the Editor.
