NURSING HOMES.

The Select Committee on Nursing Homes has reported in favour of legislation to make the registration and in spection of these institutions compulsory’, with county councils and county borough councils as the supervisory ru-

tliorities. Maternity homes, which have become so popular of recent years, ire to be brought within the scope of the Bill. Moreover, it is not proposed to exclude homes from its scope solely on the ground that there is a medical practitioner resident or in control cf e. home. There is little doubt that regis-

tration and inspection of a number of these institutions has been desirable for a long time. 1 hear reports of many where the food and attention are by no means commensurate with the fees charged. It is hardly likely that the projected legislation can be introduced I before next session.
