THE WENDY HUT

HOW CENT SHOCKED THE JUNGLE. “Oh,’’ cried Alike tie monkey. 'Tent the centipede has taken to boots!” “Boots!” echoed Prim the parrot. “Oh, .•what behaviour!” “And, in consequence, she’s always late for everything,” nodded Hike. “Of course Cent doesn’t wear her boots in the house; but when she goes out, she puts ’em all on, and it takes a terrible Jot of time because she gets ’em mixed up .and forgets which is for which foot.” ‘‘What does she look like when they're all on right?” asked Prim, anxiously. “Not quite nice,” answered Mike. "Queer you know, and most original. A centipede in green leaf boots laced up with double spiderweb is something to snake you sit up.” Without a word Prim flew out of her tree and away to that part of the jungle where Cent lived under a rock. Ah, there she was, lacing up her, boots in the sun, while her father, mother and brothers and sisters were stamping their hundreds of feet because she had kept them waiting. Then they went off without her, for she had put three right boots on three left legs! “You’ll never be able to catch your supper in those boots,” said Prim in a horrified voice. “Good for my figure not to eat too much,” replied Cent, and she swaggered away, wriggling with pride. Soon she became the talk of the jungle and everyone was shocked to think that she had dared to go out in boots. Then Mike gave a party when he knew a storm was coming an, and, of courp in the middle of it the guests rushed off to their homes—all except Cent! She ceuld not run in her boots, and the rain got in, and she tried to take them off, and the spiderweb tangled, and Mike saved her just before she was drowned! But Cent never wore boots again.
