COMMISSION’S STATUS
SIR H. DENISON IN AMERICA. DENIAL FROM MELBOURNE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Ottawa, Nov. 17. The Washington special correspondent of the Toronto Globe says that the status of Sir Hugh Denison (Australian Trade Commissioner) will be changed to that of Minister within three montns. according to information obtained today from an authoritative quarter. Mr. Bruce may possibly proceed to Australia from the Imperial Conference by way of the United States, and it is probable that the contemplated change of Auetralia’s representation in this country may be made at that time. Melbourne, Nov. 18 Dr. Page, acting Federal Prime Minister, states that the cabled statements regarding Sir Hugh Denison’s change of status are ridiculous. Such a thing had not even been contemplated. Received Nov. 18, 8.15 p.m. London, Nov. 17. Mr. Bruce declined to comment on trie story that Sir Hugh Denison will shortly be raised to the rank of Australian Minister in Washington, beyond saying that he had not authorised such a statement. It is known that Mr. Bruce throughout the conference has been averse to Ministerial appointments abroad, and thinks there is no justification for such a policy, except where contiguity exists, such as in the case of Canada und the United States. A message from New York states that Sir H. Denison has arrived there and disclaimed all knowledge of his appoint, merit as a Minister.
