DIAMOND WEDDING

MR AND MRS. HENRY J. HARRIS. A happy gathering was held at the reridence of Mr. and Mrs. Harris on Wednesday to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Harris, of Lepperton, who were the recipients of congratulations by members of the family and many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Harris were married at the Bearsted Parish Church, Maidstone, Kent, England, on November 17, 1866. They came to New Zealand in the ship Waikato, which occupied 111 days on the trip, reaching here on July 15, 1874. They took up farming, at first on the Carrington Road, and later in the Tarurutangi district, from which they retired about 23 years ago, and settled in the Lepperton district, where they have since resided. They have three sons and four daughters living, out of a family of 14, and those present at the celebration on Wednesday were: Messrs. W. Harris (New Plymouth), C. Harris (Raetihi), and Edwin Harris (Auckland), Mesdames W. Egberts (New Plymouth). James Bishop (Fitzroy), Frank Sampson (Lepperton), and A. Andrews
