-MR. L. ETHERINGTON FAREWELLED.
Upon the eve of his departure for Auckland, Mr. L. Etherington was yes-' terday the guest at a luncheon in his honour by Ihe Taranaki Law Society. The principals of every legal office in New Plymouth were present, also Mr. R. W. Tate, S.'M.
Mr. Etherington has accepted a journalistic appointment on the staff of the New Zealand Herald. For nearly eeven years he has occupied the position of secretary of the society, which also entails the duty of the care of the law library. In addition to this work, Mr. Etherington has also taken a keen interest in many of the activities of the town. His work as one of the borough representatives on the committee of the Carnegie Institute has been most valuable and highly appreciated by all connected with the library. He has also been secretary of the Savage Club and of the Golf Club, and his removal from New Plymouth will be regretted by a wide circle of friends to whom he has become known.
In an appropriate speech, Mr. R. H. Qtiiiliam, president of the society, eulogised the work done by Mr. Etherington during his residence in New Plymouth, and in expressing the society’s good wishes to Mr. Etherington for his future success, made a small presentation on behalf of the practitioners of New Plymouth, W’hieh, he assured the recipient, carried with it the sincere regard of all the members of the profession. Mr. Etherington suitably replied, expressing thanks for the gift from his fellow-practitioners, and appreciation of the cordiality shown towards him.
'Mr. Etherington leaves for Auckland this evening.
