JAMAICA’S CONSTITUTION

ALTERATION REJECTED. By Teiegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 18, 8.50 p.m. Kingston (Jamaica), Nov. 17. The elected and official members of .he Legislative Council have rejected the proposed change in the Jamaican constitution offered by the British Government, that eiected members should have a permanent majority in the Council with the appointment of live members in the Government Executive Council. It is asserted that the proposed change will be a retrograde step and likely to lead to a purely Crown Colony. The fear is expressed that successive Governor® might exercise an over-riding power in certain matters, and be supported by the Colonial Office.
