At auction last week prices were:—Chicks, 4d to 9d; cockerels, 2s Id to ss; roosters, 3s lOd to 5s 44; hens, 2s lOd to 4s 2d; ducklings, 4s to 4s Id; ducks, 3s Id to 3s Sd; hen and chickens, 8s 6d to 17s. Strawberries were on the market in New Plymouth last week and will be again this week. Hothouse tomatoes are also available and this seasons marrows and cucumbers are arriving within several days. LOWER PRICES FOR FAT ANIMALS. Christchurch, Nov. 17. To-day was the first sale at Addington for a fortnight, none having been held during the carnival week. Store Sheep.—A fair-sized entry, a great increase in shorn sheep being noticeable. Hoggets in wool sold at good prices. Shohi wethers sold rather unevenly, though the tendency was to advance as the sale progressed. Ewes and lambs showed little change from the last sale, although they sold more freely. Aged ewes and lambs made 13s 6d to 15s 3d; inferior aged ewes and lambs, 12s to 13s 3d; sound mouthed, 21s to 22s 94; aged shorn ewes aud lambs, Ils 3d: small shorn two* and four-toothed crossbred ewes, 25s 3d; shorn two-tooth-ed wethers, 16s to 16s 9d; four and sixtoothed Romney wethers, 23s 9d; shorn four-toothed halfbred wethers, 22s to 245; shorn six and eight-toothed half bred "wethers, 32s 3d; three-quarterbred ewe hoggets, 33s 6d to 345; good threequarterbred ewe hoggets, 38s 3d; good halfbred ewe hoggets, 38s lid to 39s 3d; half bred cull wether hoggets, 16s 8d; six and eight-toothed halfbred wethers. 245. t Spring Lambs. —The entry totalled 970 head, being larger than at the double market of two weeks ago and much in excess of requirements. Prices accordingly dropped 3s to 4s per head. Prime Lambs, 26s 3d to 30s Id; medium lambs, 23s 6d to 25s 9d; light lambs, 18s to 22s 64. Fat Sheep.—Fourteen races of fat sheep were penned, the entry being little short of that of the previous eale. There was a good proportion of shorn sheep. The yarding left little to be desired, so far as quality was concerned, but owing to the size of the yarding a recission in values of from 3s to 4s per head was not altogether unexpected. Values were: Extra prime woolly wethers, to 425; prime, 34s to 37s 6d; medium 32s 6d to 33s 6d; light, 30s 6d to 325; extra prime shorn wethers, to 34s 7d; prime, 28s to 325; medium, 26s to 27s 6d; light, 23s 6d to 25s 6d; extra prime woolly ewes to 36s lOd; prime, 29s to 325; medium, 26s to 28s 6d; light, 22s to 25s 6d; extra prime shorn ewes, to 30s; prime, 23s to 26s 6d; medium, 20s 6d to 22s 6d; light and aged, 16s to 20s. Fat Cattle. —559 head were forward, compared with 620 at the previous sale. Generally the entry was well up to the average quality, but there was a notable absence of better class steer beef. Th© demand at the outset was fair, but the figures slipped back by 10s to £1 per head, with the least depreciation notice, able for good class cows. Prime medium weight beef sold at from 38s to 40s per 1001 b; heavy prime, 34s to 355; best heifer, 34s to 395; good cow beef, 33s to 365; medium quality steer, 30s to 335; ‘and rough, down to 265. Prime heavy steers realised £l6 to £lB 10s; prime medium weight, £l4 10s to £l6 10s; medium quality steers, £l2 to £l3 10s; light steers, £8 10s to £ll 10s; extra prime heifers, to £l4 17s 6d; prime heifers, £ll 10s to £l3; ordinary heifers, £8 to £11; extra prime cows, to £l4; medium cows, £7 to £8 10s; light and aged cows, £4 10s- to £6 10s. Vealers.—Good runners made to £7 10s; medium runnejs, £6 to £6 15s; good calves, £5 5s to £5 15s; medium calves, £4 to £5; inferior calves, 15s to 30s. Store Cattle. —Only a small number were penned, mostly cows, with a few pens of heifers. Young stuff at all forward met with a keen demand, the sale being the best held at Addington for some time. Good fresh young cows made to £5 2s 6d; medium cows, £3 to £4 2s 6d; aged cows, £1 5s to £2 10s; yearling, to 18-months-old heifers, £2 10s to £4; yearling steel's, to £3 6s; bulls, £3 10s to £7. Dairy Cattle. —The entry consisted of 47 head, being mostly -of indifferent quality. Best second, third and fourth calvers made £7 10s to £9 10s; medium sorts. £5 10s to £7; inferior, £3 to £5: extra good heifers, £ll 10s to £l5; ordinary heifers, £3 10s. to £6 10s. Fat Pigs.—A medium entry. Choppers made £3 to £6 8s 64; light baconers, £3 12s to £4; extra heavy baconers, £4 7s 64 to £5 (average price per lb, 7u to 714); light porkers. 50s to 57s 64; heavy porkers, 60s to 70s (average price B’d to 944). Store Pigs.—Small weaners made 23s tt. 28s; best sorts to 345: small stores, 36s to 425; medium stores, 44s to 48s.
