Mr. and Mrs. Inder are visiting their son Roy at Rahotu. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Emeny returned to Now Plymouth on Tuesday night from a short holiday spent at Auckland and Hamilton.
Major-General Selheim has been appointed administrator of Norfolk Island, states a Press Association cablegram from Melbourne.
The Rev. George Walters, a prominent Unitarian minister and lecturer, was knocked down in Sydney by a motor car and kelled, states a Press Association cablegram. His age was 73 year*. A Christchurch message reports tho death of Mr. Walter Hill, chairman of the Christchuech Drainage Board, and prominently connected with wool-brok-ing.
Mr. Noel C. Fookes, of the Public Works Department, Stratford, has been appointed engineer to the Clifton County Council, and will leave to take up his new duties on the first of next month.
Constable B. La Pouple, who haa been spending seven weeks in Australia, is expected to return to Waitara to-night. Ho will resume duty immediately and Constable A. C. Davie, who hus been relieving at Waitara will return to New Plymouth.
Mr. A. Nisbet Smith, manager of Archibald, Clark and Sons, Ltd., in New Plymouth, for the past four years, has resigned to take up a responsible position with the Wanganui Woollen Mills Company. Mr. Smith is president of the New Plymouth Rotary Club and a citizen whose activities extend in many directions, and his departure will be • distinct loss to the community. Miss J. C. Slattery, of the Hawcra Main School, has resigned from th* teaching service, and intends to go abroad. She commenced teaching in 1881) and during the whole sulbsequaflt period was absent only live days on sick leave. Members of the Taranaki Education Board decided yesterday to express their appreciation of Miss Slattery’s services, and to congratulate her on her wonderful record.
Very cordial appreciation of the work done for the Bawera Winter Show by tho secretary and manager, Mr. L. O. Hooker, was expressed at the hut monthly meeting of rhe executive. In view of the line results aclu.eved • bonus of £ia to cover Mr. Hooker’s out-of-pocket expenses was granted for th* year 1925-26. Mr. Hooker, it may b* added, has during every year laid bef<«'* the executive a scheme tor each »how embodying special features likely to attract the public, and during the year ho has done much extra work in fittherance of the scheme. In connection with tlie Empire Week project, when 5000 children from schools spread over the district from Wanganui to Waitara, were entertained in Hawera, the work' of organising this scheme was carried out under the genera! direction of Mr*. L. O. Hooker.
