ITALIAN SWISS FRONTIER

STRATEGIC ROAD BEING BUILT. By Telegraph—Press Aasn.-Copyrlght. London, Nov. 14. The Geneva correspondent of The Times says Swiss military circles are nervous regarding the Italian Army’s construction of a strategic road leading to the San Giacoma pass, connecting Italy with the Swiss Canton of Tieins. Colonel Weber, ex-commandant of engineers, points out that the road will enable troops in swift motor lorries, starting from Domo d’Ossola to occupy the Swiss fortifications in the St. Gothard’s Pass before the Swiss can be mobilised. Many believe that, while the Fascists are not hostile to Switzerland they regard Tieins as a lost province and hope at some time to annex it.
