STUNG TO DEATH
BEES ATTACK A DEAF MUTE.

A swarm of bees settled on William Spratt, an inmate of the Home for Deaf Mutes, at Salisbury, South Australia, and stung him so viciously that he died after suffering terribly for three days. Spratt was exercising in the gardens of the home when the swarm appeared. He began to walk away, but had only gone a few steps when the bees swooped down on him, stinging fiercely. The victim of course unable to call for help, and his efforts to beat off his attackers only enraged them the more. Only when the swarm had done with him was Spratt found by attendants, and taken, swollen and agonised, to hospital. There lie lay for three days, fully conscious and ‘in terrible pain, then his heart failed, and he died.
