PLEASURE FOR THE BLIND.
Sir, —I am writing to ask if yon will be kind enough to make an appeal to your readers to give some pleasure to the Now Zealand blind, who, at the Jubilee Blind Institute, are trying so hard to help themselves to become useful citizens. There are now 70 students at the institute, and as they find their greatest pleasure in music and reading, it would be nice to show them, nt this season of the year, that they are not forgotten, by contributing something to help them in these directions. I therefore suggest that the children bo asked to contribute Id each, or if preferred, to get up a school concert. Two yeans ago I made an appeal to the schools to help the institute, with the splendid result that over £3OO was contributed, and the gift was accompanied by many letters of good cheer snd encouragement, which gave great pleasure to the inmates. The present appeal is for the purpose •if enaming the institute to hare completed the (ini- three manual organ presented to them some years ago by Sit Henry Brett. This organ is lacking in several stops, and the blind urgenlst. Rev. E. Chitty, who is a keen and clever musician, is anxious to get it completed on account of the pleasure the inmates derive from the music, amt also Unit he may be better alble to train hie four blind students to become professional organists. The cost will be about £2OO. ■Should the response to this appeal exceed the amount required, the balance will be spent in buying mere books for the blind in the new Braille, a sample of which I enclose. In order that every penny given by Hie children may be used for th* purposes outlined, I am most willingly bearing the cost of making this appeal, which is done w'th the full permission of the Blind Institute and the Education Board. All moneys I desire to be sent direct to The Organist. Jubilee Blind Instiutc, Auckland. Thanking joi for any service you can render to our New /.calami blind.—l am, etc, F. NORRTS. Masterton. Nov. 15.
