ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE MEETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. At a meeting of the Presbyterian Assembly supply and appointments committee to-night it was reported that six settlements had been made and that ” six aid receiving charges bad risen to the self-sustaining level. Reference was made to the serious state of the matter in Otago Central, where the Presbytery has lost half its ministers. A report on the sustentation fund was submitted by the Rev. J. Pringle, of Dunedin. He said that the equal dividend had been raised to £286. The congregations in Otago and Southland had contributed £960 and in the rest of the church £766 was given. A petition from the Presbytery of Auckland, asking the church to raise a semi-jubilee fund of £250.0(10 was introduced by the Rev. J. L. Harvey-Mather, and was referred to the finance com- . _ mittee. The Presbytery in Auckland also forwarded an overture guaranteeing advances whereby small churches and new districts might be. helped. The matter was rtt'erred to the fsianee committee, A report on the insurance fund was given by Mr. A. D. Thomson (Wellings ton). Insurances amounting to £71,417 were distributed over 381 churches. 24 manses and 193 schoolrooms, ete. The amount to the credit of the fund was £10,470. e ’>. Scholarships of £5O to the Theological' College and £25 to the colleges are to be granted. An amount of £4OO was transferred to the beneficiary fund.
