CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
GOVERNMENT TO PAY £15.500 The ease in whieh Anthony Harper claimed £20.000 from the Minister of Public Works as compensation for 61 feet of frontage in Cambridge Terrace, Wellington, taken by the Crown by proclamation in August last for the purpose of erecting a new post office to replace the Courtenay Place Post Office, was continued in the Supreme Court on Friday before Mr. Justice MacGregor. G. Halliday, Land Purchase Officer, said he had inspected the property, the capital value of which he estimated at £10,462. The buildings, he said, were worth £1475. Fraser McKenzie, Government Valuer, said he put a capital value of £10,350 on the property, and on the buildings £l-500. After hearing further evidence, the court adjourned. Upon resuming, it was announced that the claimant would be awarded £15.500 as compensation on all counts. The assessors were also awarded £lO 10s each per day. The respondent was ordered to pay to the claimant £l5O costs.
