PIRACY ON HIGH SEAS
FRENCH STEAMER SEIZED DARING WORK BY CHINESE BULLION & MONEY STOLEN By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Peking, Nov. 14. The arrival at Hong Kong of the French steamer Hanoi has revealed a daring piracy. When 90 miles off Hong Kong armed desperadoes overpowered the officers, killing one and wounding two. The Chinese guards took command and set a course for Bias Bay, where the vessel was abandoned, after removing 50,000 dollars of bullion (maritime Customs moneys) and taking 20,000 dollars from the passengers. While the pirates were controlling the vessel a British destroyer- was sighted, but the Hanois’ captain was threatened with instant death if he signalled. The pirates came on board disguised as passengers.
