Whiting, District Inspector of Factories, leaves for Gisborne to-day for a fortnight’s holiday. News from Danville, Illinois, states that “Uncle Joe” Cannon, fromer Speaker of the House of Representatives, died on Friday, .aged 90. Mr. C. 11. Wynyard returned to New Plymouth from Australia on Friday evening. Mies Maida Hooker, formerly of Hawera, has’ been appointed organist of St. Benedicts’ Roman Catholic Church, Auckland. Signor Constantin!, one of the Sistine Choir soloists, is choir master.
