SATURDAY’S PLAY IN THE COMPETITIONS HEAVY SCORING IN PUKEKURA PARK EXCELSIOR BATS WELL IN THE SOUTH Saturday was again a day of surprises in the Taranaki cricket competitions, which were continued in tine weather on fast wickets. In North Taranaki scoring in the New Plymouth-Western Park match at Pukekura Park was as unusually high as it was unusually low in both the other senior grade matches. Western Park made a fine stand against New Plymouth, who replied with a substantial total for the loss of two wickets. Old Boys A are again behind on the first innings, going cheaply to Old Boys B, and at Urenui High School are leading from the home team in a low scoring match. In the Country Association interesting positions arose, while the South Taranaki matches produced victories for Excelsior against Manaia and Okaiawa against Stratford. A feature of Excelsior’s innings was a well played century by Stan. Lay.
