WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Charged at the Police Court on Monday morning with damaging property, a Maori named Ropeta was given a severe reprimand and fined £1 and ordered to pay 25/-, the cost of the damage done. The slaughtering of pigs at the local freezing works has been going on at a rapid rate since the beginning of the season. The firm so far has put through no less than 10,000 carcases, and the pay-out has been correspondingly large. Miss Connie Spurdie has been advised by the Public Service Commissioner that she has been successful in passing the junior examination for shorthandtypists. Miss Spurdie is a pupil of the New Plymouth Technical College.
