EVERYBODY’S. “THE SEVENTH DAY” AT BOTH SESSIONS TO-DAY.. The attraction at Everybody’s for this afternoon and to-night will be the First National special feature <f The Seventh Day.” That sterling actor Richard Barthelraess has another masterpiece in “The Seventh Day,” rn which he is starred with Louise Huff. The story is a narrative of the lives of New England fisherfolk, in which the star’s simple, sincere manner of acting carries conviction. To the isolated Maine seacoast town comes a yacht filled with social blades and flappers, who are forced to idle away seven days because the engine has broken down. Even jazz and “put and take” become tiresome, and the metropolites start to explore the place at which Kismet had landed them. Young Alden falls madly in love with one of the girls, who, in the ennui of luxury, allows him to escort her about. It is just a game to the girl. • ;ut deadly serious for the boy; and it is the realisation of impending crisis that brings out the true disposition of both. Prices, of admission are as usual. PAULINE FREDERICK AS “MADAM X” NEW YEAR’S NIGHT. The first of the new Goldwyn productions, “Madame X,” starring the wellknown emotional actress Pauline Frederick. will be the attraction at Everybody’s for New Year’s’ night and the following night. The screen has inherited from the stage no more powerful drama than “Madame X,” which t contains every element the screen story demands—romance, intrigue, pathos, humor, and tragedy. The story tells of Jacqueline Floriot, who is turned from her home bv the unjust suspicion of her husband. Denied the affection of her little son. whom she loves dearlv. she seeks solace in the underworld of Paris. Years pass, and her husband, grown in political influence, became, the judge of a Paris’ criminal court, and strangely enough Jacqueline’s murder of if. blackmailer who would have ruined her career, brought her before his bar of justice for punishment. Another cruel twist of fate places her son as counsel for her defence. Pauline Frederick brings to the screen in the role of “Madame X” a sunerb portrayal of this pathetic figure, whose life story will he followed by pieture-goers with sympathetic interest, '-0 near it to perfect realism. The big dramatic special •will be screened at the usual price of admission. THE PEOPLE’S MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M. Miss Alice Brady, the winsome select star appears to-day, to-night, and Monday night at the People’s in her latest Selznick release “At the Mercy of Meh.” Alice Brady has a penchant lor pictures depicting life in Russia, and in “At the Mercy of Men” she fully maintains the high expectations one has always had of her. There are few women who can wear expensive costumes with such an air as Miss Brady. Tn this picture she is th<? victim of the uncontrollable passions' of three Russian officers of the Imperial Guard. Her case is presented before the Czar, who orders one of the officers to marrv her. and compels the other two to forfeit to her their fortunes. A great popular rising •brings thrilling developments in its train, and after many adventures the heroine becomes reconciled to the man to whom she has been wedded. An excellent supporting programme is with this feature and includes Hairoom Boy Comedy, “Wild, Wild Women,” Canadian scenic and Selznick news. The prices of admission to all sessions are as usual, and Episode II of “The Blue Fox” screens at both sessions to-day and again on Momiay. KAPONGA PICTURES. At the matinee commencing at 2 p.m. to-day, an excellent Selznick" attraction. “The Palace of Darkened Windows,” will be screened together with excellent supports. The evening programme, commencing at 8 p.an., includes the Universal super-production, “Wild Honey,” featuring Priscilla Dean, and a Century comedy, “Nb Brains,” while a further pnisode of “The .Winner? of the West” will ’be shown both afternoon and evening.
