HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.

NEW Y r EAR OUTINGS, A VARIED ASSORTMENT. Monday ushers in a new year, and on that day a general holiday will be observed. Out-of-doors’ Taranaki pleas-ure-seekers will find much to interest them, particularly on New Year’s Day, and, to a lesser extent, on the following day, after which the holiday season is at an end for miwt people, and the province will once more wear a businesslike aspect. Racing enthusiasts throughout tho province will make Stratford their headquarters on Monday and Tuesday, when the Stratford Racing Club’s annua) meeting will be held. Special trains have been arranged, so that patrons from New Plymouth, Tahora, Hawera, Wanganui, and intermediate districts will be able to return home eacn night after the races. The acceptances for the first day show that there likely to be good fields and keen competition, factors that are likely to rule also on the second day. Another point that W’ill appeal to patrons is that the chib has this year fixed the price of. admission on a considerably lower scale. Two seaside picnics are on the bill of fare for those seeking enjoyment in New Plymouth—one at Ngamotu and the other at Autere Park (East End). Both promise to provide fun and pleasure in plenty, and, given a continuance of fine weather, will draw large numbers of people from both town ami country.

Another popular picnic-ground for New Year’s Day is Ngaere Gardens, and intending visitors from Ilawera, New Plymouth, and Stratford will find that the train arrangements suit all. A bowling tournament, under the auspices of the Taranaki Bowling Centre, will be held on the New Plymouth, Fitzroy and West End greens on Monday and Tuesday. Thirty Taranaki rinks have entered, and these have been divided into five sections. A North Taranaki cricket eleven travel to Hawera on Tuesday to play South Taranaki in a one-day’s match. Numerous private excursion parties have been arranged for New Year’s Day, most of them having the mountain as their objective. At this season of the year the trip is very popular, as conditions for making the ascent are more favorable.
