PRISONER DIES.
DEATH FROM NATURAL CAUSES. A prisoner named Morris Scott Johnson died at the New Plymouth Hospital on Xmas Eve. The deceased was a married man, aged 50, and was sentenced at Dunedin on August 7 to three years reformative detention on several charges of forging and uttering. He was in bad health when received into prison, and on November 29, when he was transferred to the New Plymouth Gaol from the Paparua prison he was attended to by Dr. Brewster, and, on the 15th inst. was removed to the hospital, where Dr. Walker operated. The operation was successful, but the man died from toxemia. At the inquest, held on Xmas Day before Mr. A. M. Mowlem S.M- as coroner, evidence was given by Drs. Brewster and Walker, and a verdict was returned in accordance with their testimony.
