ENTERTAINMENTS.
THE PEOPLE’S. XMAS MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M. The Selznick release “The Broken Gate,” which screens to-day and tonight only, at the Peoples, is another big feature. This is the tale of a girl who paid for a foolish mistake of her girlhood with twenty years of silent suffering. Bessie Barriscale draws with deft strokes a picture of mother love which is as beautiful as it is characteristic of a. great woman. Sam de Grasse, Marguerite de la Motte, and Joseph Kilgour are amongst those who assist to place on the screen a powerful romance, and they enchain the interest of the audience with its telling. There arc moments in this mighty production when the tears will flow unchecked —moments when you want to step right into the picture and protect a lonely woman from the insane rage of the lynching mob—when a cheer will burst from your lips as the boy asserts his right to'protect his mother’s honor! The supporting films include episode 10 of “The Blue Fox,” Hairoom Boy, Comedy and Topical. The prices of admission are advertised as usual. KAPONGA PICTURES. “THE MAN OF THE FOREST.” In “The Man of the Forest” the Zane Grey special production showing tonight, great care has been taken to adhere strictly to the original story. The spirit and atmosphere of the wild tree life of the West has been wonderfully reproduced; while the acting of the many wild animals —bear, puma, and mountain lion.—adds wonderfully to the merits of the picture. Successive chapters of “The Winners of the West” will be shown both afternoon and evening.
