Leonard Walter Makin, who was arrested for forgery, has been remanded to appear at Wellington on December 29. Accused opened an account at Palmerston North for £24. with instructions that it "’as to he operated on at Carterton. He visited Carten °” this morning and drew a cheque £2O, which was honored. He then presented a cheque for £«6(. drawn on the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Loan Account, hut it was reiS as the manager had been warned. Makin asked for an advance of £2OO to buy a ear. but it was refused, so he left the bank. ‘ lowed Makin to ihe railway »t»*’on, and both boarded the express. On arrival at Masterton the manager pointe 1 Makin out to a constable, who »rr® him. It i« believed he issued five ■Cheques, totalling £3OOO.
