By Telegraph. -Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Business is practically lifeless and little movement may be expected until after the holidays. The Australian demand for oats ‘s easier, due to beneficial rains in New South Wales, and quotations as ft result are 2d per bushel less from Sydney than they a fortnight ago. At country stations values here are nominally 2s 6d for B grade. Good, bright and heavy oaten chaff is meeting with a fair demand and good quality is worth £3 10s to £3 15s at country stations. There is an entire absence of business in the new season’s wheat. One expert’s opinion is that early values will be about 5s a bushel, but after the first demand is filled there will be an easing. Other views incline to the belief that the yield will not all round be as good as last year, and that there will be little surplus to depress prices. There has been an inquiry or two about barley. Forward business in potatoes is negligible. The area in crop is understood to be large, and the crops are coming on well. MEAT PRICES. BOARD’S WEEKLY REPORT.
