After a hard weeks work, and perhaps a heavy dinner on Christmas Day, people often wonder what to do with themselves to ensure a good night’s rest. This year the solution has been provided for them by way of the open-air concert in Pukekura Park. The programme arranged is an excellent one, and includes all the best local vocalists and instrumentalists, so that an enjoyable evening is assured. Besides having the grounds lighted with electric light, the committee has arranged for displays of coloured lights at intervals during the evening, which should give a very beautiful effect to the lake and its surroundings. Extra seating accommodation will be provided, so that patrons can listen to the concert in comfort. The New Plymouth Pipe Band has kindly consented to assist, and will march to the Park from the post office via Devon Street and Liardet Street at 7.15 p.m. on the night of the concert. The attention of retailers is drawn to the fact that, under the provisions of the Shops and Offices Act, 1920, retailers must close their premises on Christmas Eve not later than 10 p.m. Previously the hour of closing was 11 p.m., but from the above it will be seen that the hour has been reduced to 10 p.m. ■Special values at C.
