ALLEGED FALSE DECLARATION.

In the Police Court, Jessie M‘Leod, a married woman, was committed to trial on a charge of making a false declaration touching the destruction by fire of goods at her residence. A HAWKE’S BAY STORM. Hastings, December 20. Hastings and district were struck by a storm of unusual violence yesterday afternoon. Hailstones of a large size considerably damaged fruit crops, and a deluge of rain flooded the streets, the water invading some business premises through defective roofs, damaging stocks. The hailstorm was confined to a comparatively small area. A visitation of such severity was quite unprecedented.
