FOREIGN EXCHANGES. London, Dec. 19. The Berlin exchange is 33,500 marks to £l. The New York figures are 462 5-8 cents to £l. TARANAKI SALES. Newton King, Ltd., report:— At Urenul, or December 11, a moderate yarding met an excellent sale. Fat stock especially sold well. Fat ewes and wethers 27s Id, hoggets 21s, ewes and lambs 27s Id, fat b'ulloeks £6 7s 6d, £7, fat cows £4 ss, £4 7s 6d, £5 10s, store do. 27s 6d, £2 2s. fresh conditioned do. £2 15s, £3, 3-year-old steers £3, 4-year-old do. £4 10s, 15-month heifers, s.w.c.' £3 10s, £3 15s, empty do. 38s 6d, £2 12s, £2 18s, springing cow £9, springing heifer £6 15s. At Stratford, on the following day, a comparatively small yarding sold at late values. Forward ewes 20s, 18-month steers 39s 6d> £2 4s, 15-month heifers, s.w.b. £4 12s, £4 15s, Jersey do. £6 2s. empty do. £2 2s, £3 7s, fat. cows £4 2s 6d, £5 9s, dairy cows £7 ss.
At Inglewood, on December 13, there was a good Inquiry for 15-month heifers of medium quality, and prices firmed accordingly. Other store cattle showed no change on late rates. Hoggets 245, 15-month steers £2 7s, 3-year-old do. £3 6s, £3 Us, 15-month heifers £3 5s 6d, £3 10s, better sorts £4 16s, fat cows £5 2s 6d, store do. £2, boner bulls 30s, £8 17s 6d. At the same sale a herd of 15 cows offered on account of Mrs. C. Dravltzskl, made, considering the advanced stage of the season, the satisfactory average of £7 10s. At Kohuratahl, on the same day, a fair offering all sold. Hoggets 25s 6d, ewes and lambs 395, store cows 38s, springing heifer £5. At Ohura, on the following day, a good yarding of both sheep and cattle were penned, and all report an excellent sale. All classes sold under firm competition, and a full clearance resulted. Two-tooth ewes 255, ewes and lambs 335, 4-tooth wethers 20s 6d, forward do. 25s 3d, 26s 3d, 18-<m.onth steers £2 6s, 3 and 4-year-old bullocks £3 6s, £3 Us, £4 4s, £4 13s, fat do. £6 19s, heifers r.wb. £4, £4 10s, 15-month empty do. £2, £3 13s. At Rahotu, on December 14, late values ruled. 15-month steers 37s 6d, fat cows £5 ss, £7, light do. £4, store cows 255, £2 6s, heifers running with bull £3 17s 6d.
At Stony River, on the 19th instant, a moderate yarding all sold. Fifteen-month Friesian heifers £4 7s, fat cows £4 10s, £5 ss, store and forward do. 30s, £2 15s, boner bulls up to £3 10s, dairy cows tip to £lO, springing heifers £5, £8 lOp, fat, ewes (shorn) 21s 6d, ewe? and lambs (all counted) 13s, 14s 6(1.
LONDON WOOL SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 15th instant: — Wool Sales.—The sales closed firmly to-day. As compared with last sales’ closing rates prices are higher by about 5 per cent, for crossbred lambs, scoured crossbred, coarse crossbred slipe, fine greasy crossbred and fine crossbred slipe. Prices are higher by about 10 per cent for coarse greasy crossbred and medium crossbred slipe, and about 15 per cent, to 20 per cent, higher for medium greasy crossbred. Merino is lower by 5 per cent, to 10 per cent. The prices realised for average to super grades of the undernoted descriptions of wool were: Merino super 2s 3d to 2s 4d, merino average Is 9d to 2s Id, crossbred 50-58’s Is 8d to 2s 2d, crossbred 48-50’s Is 3d to Is Bd, crossbred 46-48’s Is Id to Is 4%d, crossbred 44-46's to Is Id, crossbred 40-44’s B%d to lid, crossbred 36-40’s 7%d to 9d.
