POPPY DAY.
RESULT OF THE APPEAL. AN ANNUAL EVENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The report of the Poppy Day fund committee, controlling Wellington, Manawatu, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa and Taranaki districts, with headquarters at Palmerston North, states that receipts in 22 sub-centres and surrounding districts realised £4756 13s Id. Of this amount £1299 was remitted for the relief of French children, and th, balance, less £lBO in costs of administration, was distributed. The report expresses the opinion that aa a permanent institution Poppy Day is now established, and though, happily, unemployment is now rapidly becoming a thing ot the past, objectives in promoting commemorative public works of beauty and utility should be maintained.
