INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The annual breaking-up and prizegiving celebration at Lincoln Road school, took place on Monday evening, Mr. Burson (chairman of the committee) presiding. The school was well filled with parents and friends of the pupils. A good programme of musical and other items was given by the children. helped by visitors (Miss Young and Mr. W. J. Smith) who each sang, the rendering of the whole programme meeting with the warm appreciation of all present. Prizes for regular attendance, proficiency in school work, good behaviour and a prize present for each child, were duly distributed, in all, 74 prizes being given. Subsequently an excellent supper, provided by the ladies of the district was enjoyed. The children then dispersed to their homes, and the elders had the pleasure of a night’s dancing, to music supplied by Mr. Murfitt of Inglewood. Mr. R. Knofflock acting as M.C., both of whom so well fulfilled their duties that 2 a.m. was reached before the close of an enjoyable function. ■Early last fall a small band of volunteer workers decided to carry out a series of euchre parties and dance gatherings in the Town Hall, during the winter, with the set purpose of raising at least £5O towards the fund for erecting a fitting memorial to the, soldiers from this district who gave their lives for the cause of loyalty and, liberty in the Great War. the final 1 effort of the series eventuated op; November 23, and, like its p. edeeessore, was a complete success. From first to last the organisation has been so good that not a hitch of any sort has occurred, and it is satisfactory to record that, over £5l has been paid into the fund. The committee (Messrs. A. Bakety W. Eager, P. Fougere, K. Lawson, R. Lett and T- Pyne) certainly deserve the thanks and congratulations of the public, as well as due credit for the exI eellenee of the work they have done, and Ihe success that has attended their efforts. It should not be long now before a forward movement may be announce.!. The monthly meeting of. the Inglewood school committee was held <n December 12 when Mesdames Clegg. Cold well and Partridge. Messrs N. King (chairman). Carmine and Knofflock were present. Mrs. Seobie was authorised to get the necessary articles nml goods for cleaning the school. Mr. Lyall’s action in opening the school at 9 a.m. and allowing an hour and a half for lunch during the summer was and confirmed.
