SENSATIONAL HOLD-UP.
BANDITS MAKE RICH HAUL. SHARP BATTLE ENSUES. By Telegraph.—Preas Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 19, 5.5 p.m. New York, Dec. 18. A telegram from Denver, Colorado, states that seven bandits held up a Federal Reserve Bank automobile in front of the United States mint, and escaped with 200,000 dollars in currency. The bandits drew up in a closed car just as the bank car was leaving the mint, covering the bank car driver and guard with shotguns and revolvers, and the robbers transferred the money to their cars. The mint guards opened fire, but bandits, daringly standing at the curb, fired fusillade after fusillade, breaking the mint windows and riddling the doors. The employees inside the mint rushed to the windows and opened fire in support of the guards, but suddenly the bandits sped away amid a hail of shots, wounding the bank car-driver and one guard.—Aus.-N.Z.
