The Berlin exchange Is 29,500 marks to £l. Tlie improvement is attributed to the reported American interest in the restoration of the mark. LONDON MARKETS. WOOL SELLING WELL. ‘ London, Dec. 16. The wool sales closed flrm with full prices. Practically all the offering was sold. There was a large attendance of buyers throughout and the competition was remarkable. The United States representatives were larger buyers of the better parcels of imedium and fine crossbreds. The Home trade and the Continent competed well for merinos for all classes of top-making. In crossbreds the most conspicuous feature of the sales has been the wonderful clearances of offerings, however miscellaneous and inferior. The demand for merinos was somewhat irregular, and by the middle of the series prices were 10 per cent, below October. There was keener inquiry towards the end, the sales closing about 7% per cent. down. Fine crossbreds closed 7*4 per cent, up, medium 20 per cent., and low 10 per cent. Lambs were in small supply. Merinos were practically unchanged, crossbreds at full October rates. Cotton.—January 14.04 d. Rubber.—Para 13%d, plantation a-noke-l 13 l-8d to 14d. Jute.—December-January £36 10s. Hemp.—December-February £33 10s. Copra.—December-January £24 2s 6d. Linseed Oil, £39 10s. Turpentine, 96s 3d, Sheep.—New Zealand ewes 7d; lambs, Australian third quality 9d, South American heavy 9%d. Frozen Beef.—New Zealand fores, 3%d, Australian crops 4’4d; chilled Argentine fores 3%d, hinds 5%d, Uruguay fores 3%d, hinds 5%d. Others unchanged. FARMERS’ CO-OP. REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Ltd., report for week ending December 16, 1922: At Okaiawa on Monday there was a fair yarding which met with spirited competition, prices being slightly in advance of late rates. Fat cows £4 10s to £4 15s, forward £3 to £3 10s, others to £2, works bulls £2 to £4 10s, store pigs to 21s. On Wednesday nt Eltham we had a fair yarding, which met with good competition, prices being fully up to late rates. Fat cows made to £5 10s, forward conditioned young cows £4, light young cows £2 10s to £3, heavy old cows £2 to £3, Jersey yearlings to 18-month heifers £6 ss, dairy heifers to £5 10s, dairy cows to £5, fat and forward wethers 265, works bulls £2 to £6 10s, weaner pigs 12s, light stores to 255. At Hawera on Thursday we had a good yarding of cattle and a few pens of sheep. There was good competition throughout, prices being fully up to late rates. One pen of calves came forward and realised £2 Ils. Quotations: Woolly ewes, fresh conditioned 21s, extra prime wethers 335, works bulls £2 to £7 ss. sound young bulls £B, forward conditioned 5-year steers £6 7s 6<f, very sappy 4-year ditto £6, fat young cows £5 to £5 15s, fat aged cows £4 to £4 ss, young forward cows £2 15s to £3 ss.

On Friday at Waverley a good entry of cattle came forward. There was good bidding throughout, and prices realised were satisfactory to the vendors. Fat cows made to £4 13s, forward to £3 10s, heavy old cows to £3, fresh conditioned bullocks £5 2s, 2%vear ditto £3 ss, 3-year steers £3 17s 6d, 18-unonth heifers £3 to £3 7s 6d, dairy cows £7 to £9, weaner pigs 17s. bigger to 22s 6d, dairy bulls £2, works bulls to £3 10s, fat and forward ewes 225. heavy old cows £2 10s to £2 158, others to £2. Jersey cross 18'month heifers £5 14s, Holstein ditto £3 12s, Shorthorn and mixed £3 3s, 2-year ditto £3 10s, small mixed weaners £2 4s, calves £2 Ils, dairy cows £8 15s to £6, store pigs 325, higher 21s, good slips 17s. LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 13th instant:— Tallow.—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton 43s per cwt., good beef 4ls 9d per cwt., mixed 36s 6d per cwt. Market quiet. New Zealand Frozen Meat.—Lamb 11 3-8 d per lb (average). Mutton: No alteration. Last quotations November 15. Wether and maiden ewe, light B%d per lb, heavy 7%d per lb; ewe, light 6%d per lb, heavy 6 3-8 d per lb Beef: Ox hinds 4%d per lb, fores 3 7-8 d per Th; cow hinds 3 7-8 d per lb, fores 3 3-8 d per lb.
