The evergreen electrical department trouble was again before the Borough Council to-night, arising chiefly over the power enjoyed by the engineer to engage or dismiss employees. During a heated discussion, Cr. TLawson moved: “That Mr, J. W. McMillan had lost the confidence o’ the council as Mayor of the town on tho grounds that he refused to accept motions moved by The motion was lost, only Crs. Lawson, Ward and Jackson voting for it. A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held to-day before Mr. A. M, Mowlem, S.M. DEFAULTING DRILL. A. E. Baker, A. L. Hill, and A. H. Collins pleaded guilty to charges of failing to attend drill, as required by the Defence Act, and were each fined £1 with costs 7s, excepting the firstnamed, who was fined 10s and costs 7s. Vivian Hood, F. A. Dodd and A. Cameron pleaded not guilty to similar charges, and were each fined £1 aim costs 7)8, maintenance and SEPARATION. Rosy Brown was ordered to pay James Brown (a veteran aged over 80 years) £5 15s maintenance up to December 20, when Brown will be admitted to a veterans’ home, and expenses amounting to £6 16s sd. An application by Rosy Brown for a separation from James Brown was dismissed, no costs being allowed. BREACH OF BY-LAWS. For driving a cart on Flint Road at night without lights S. ' Sisters Worthington and Campbell, who have resigned from the Stratford Hospital staff, were entertained at the Nurses’ Horne on Saturday night. At tho request of the matron and stall the chairman of the board (Mr. C. D. Sole) wished the Sisters “God speed.” The Sisters left for their homes at Auckland and 'Riverton respectively toda v. The Stratford Racing Club wrote to to-night’s meeting of the Domain Board stating that the club had decided to present a lawn mower 1o the board, conditionally upon the club having tho use of the mower when required. The primary school Christmas tree function will he held in the Town Hall at 2.45 p.m. to-morrow (Tuesday). The breaking-up ceremony takes place on Wednesday.
