Admiral Sinclair unveiled a memorial at the Temple Gardens to officers and men who lost their lives in the submarine service. It records the loss of fifty-three submarines. The number killed was greater in proportion to strength compared to any other branch of the fighting force* —138 officers and 1225 men, including many gallant merchant sailors who volunteered and lost their lives, representing one-third of the total submarine service.—Aus.-N.Z.
