EVADING DRINK LAWS.
SHARP BATTLE IN KENTUCKY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 17, 5.5 p.m. New York, Dec. 15. At Lexington (Kentucky), a dozen Federal prohibition officers killed the so-called “Moonshine Monarch of Kentucky,” but lost one of their own number, in a battle following pursuit. The mountain fastnesses enabled 11 or 12 officers seeking vengeance to surround the “Moonshine” gang in a forest dug-out, and opened fire, resulting in the death of the leader, the surrender of one of his brothers and the escape of another, along with four “Moonshiners.” —Aus.-N.Z.
