At the Herrin massacre trial at Marion, Illinois, Donald Ewing, a newspaper reporter, described finding six men roped together, three being dead and the others dying. Witness identified one of the accused as a miner who covered him with a gun and refused to allow him bring water in response to the dying men’s appeals. GRAPHIC STORIES OF SLAUGHTER. New York, December 15. At Marion three witnesses recounted graphic details of the slaughter at Herrin, and pointed out that among the defendants were three men whom they saw with weapons in their hands in ’the group which led the strikebreakers prisoners to the edge of the tows, where they later were found dead.
