ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

ACCIDENT AT WAITARA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday last a serious accident Aefell Mr. Horace Kettle, of Waitara, who works in- the oleo department of Messrs. T- Borthwick and Sons. He was feeding the mincing machine witn lat, when his feet slipped on the greasy platform on which he was standing, and in endeavoring to save himself with his left arm he got it caught in the machine, which severed it above the wrist. He was immediately attended to by the local doctor and removed to the hospital. A GIG ACCIDENT. Mt. Ij. M. Lepper, of Tikorangi, met with a nasty accident whilst leaving for home in a gig after the pictures on Thursday evening. It appears the horse was a fast trotter, and it is assumed the animal got out of control. Mr. Lepper and his brother (about 11 years of age) and a lad, 14 years of age, who works for him, were precipitated on to the roadway on the east side of the bridge. The two boys were uninjured, but Mr. Lepper fell on his face, and was badly knocked about and was removed to a local hospital. The shaft of the gig was broken. RAILWAY GUARD'S DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association Taumarunui, D-‘C. 15. A railway guard named Samuel Woods collapsed at the inquiry counter yesterday and died immediately.
