LOAN FOR EX-SOLDIERS.
HELP IN NEW PLYMOUTH. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth district repatriation committee was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. C. H. Weston (chairman). W. J, Chaney, T. Furlong, H. R. Cattley, and D. le C. Morgan (-secretary). The secretary reported that since last meeting two transactions, involving £B7, being loans for furniture, had been completed. A loan of £lOO, that the committee had recommended, had been declined by Wellington. Loans amounting to £569 had been repaid during the month by ex-soldiers who had been assisted. The schedule of arrears to November 10, 1922, which the secretary presented, was reviewed by the committee. Several men waited upon the committee to explain their positions and give reasons for asking for indulgence'. In all cases the committee took a lenient view of the matter and granted the requests made. The action of the executive in granting indulgence to several men at last meeting wds approved by Wellington. Two requests \yere made for loans, amounting to £3OO, for carting and electrical businesses. both being recommended for approval. Two other small furniture loans, involving £lOO, were also approved.
