The butter market has steadily iu> proved during the week, lower retail prices having considerably stimulated the demand. Australian and New Zealand are clearing well, while Ament* is buying Danish heavily, causing a rise to 214)s to 2L2s. New Zealand choicest is worth 180 s to 182 s. and exceptionally 184 s. Australian is quoted at 174 a to 1765, unsalted. There is no forward demand for Australian and New Zealand, being entirely 4er spot’ supplies, notably largely in anticipation of Christmas. Cheese is firm and unchanged owing to small supplies, but the retail price for New Zealand (14d per pound) js Checking the demand. A material reduction is probable when supplies increase.
