PREMIER BREAKS SILENCE. CALLING PARTY TOGETHER. PARLIAMENT TO MEET. By Telegraph.—-Press Association Wellington. Last Night. “I am going to call together the members of the Government Party as soon after the holidays as ean be arranged,” stated the Prime Minister to a Times representative to-night. “The Government,” : he added, “has decided to convene a short session of Parliament early in the New Year.” “Will that be in January?” asked the pressman. “I can t say,” replied the Prime Minister, “until after the part}' meeting has been held." FINAL TARANAKI FIGURES. THE OFFICIAL RECOUNT. The official recount in connection with the election in the Taranaki electorate was completed about noon yesterday and the returning officer (Mr. J. M. Adam) announced the following result: —

At the conclusion of the official recount Messrs. R. Ellis and F. Coleman, scrutineers for tlie candidates, expressed thanks to the returning officer for the courtesy and kindness which had been shown to them throughout the campaign. The poll was a record for this electorate, and the general organisation for the taking of the vote was very thorough, and the results achieved by the staffs of the different booths reflected credit upon them and upon Mr. Adam, who had made all the arrangements. On behalf of the candidates they therefore expressed appreciation of the services of the whole staff in every way. Mr. T. Furlong, J.P., who presided, also endorsed the expressions of appreciation of the services of the polling staff and the returning officer, and said ihe comments made by the scrutineers were well merited All the. deputy returning officers had done good work; and the returns had been made with the utmost dispatch and accuracy. ■Mr. Adam, in acknowledging the compliment, said his staff was responsible for the quick and accurate returns made. FURTHER FINAL RETURNS. DOUBT REMOVED AT WAIKATO. A RE-COUNT AT OAMARU. Further final returns received yesterday and last night are:— WAIKATO. F. Lye (O) 2454 J. T. Johnson (G) 2410 A. G. Dent (Gu) 1536 Majority for Lye 44 OAMARU. .1. A. MacPherson (O) 4074 E. P. Lee (G) 4051 Majority for MacPherson.. 23 There are still some votes to come. A Magisterial recount has been applied for. OTAKI. The count of absent voters’ permits resulted: W. H. Field (G) 91, C. T. Harkness (Gu) 10, G. H. M’Clure (O) 73. Mr. Field is therefore elected by a majority of 68. PAHIATUA.
