JERSEY CATTLE.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the above club is as follows: Your committee has much pleasure in presenting to members the statement, of income and expenditure for the year ended June 30, 1922. The year financially has been entirely successful, the credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand ibeing £97 16s 7d. During the year under review two sales have been held under the auspices of the club, one of bulls, in October. 1921, and one of females in June, 1922. The offering of stoek at 'both sales was satisfactory, and the greater proportion of the stock brought forward were in good condition and realised satisfactory prices. ’ 'Some of the stock, we regret to say, were not worthy specimens of the breed, and others were in poor condition. The question of dealing with stock brought forward at our sales, weak in constitution and poor in condition generally, has had a considerable amount of attention given it iby your committee, and although certain conditions have been drawn up to combat it, and an inspection committee has been appointed with power to reject animals, yet the desirable effect, has not been reached. Your committee, acting in the best interests of the Club and the future welfare of its sales, is out to do all in its power to protect, out-
side growers from getting, through this club, at least, cattle of weak constitution. Members will have an opportunity of ventilating this question at the annual meeting. AVhilst on the matter of sales it gives us great pleasure to refer to the generous assistance rendered the club by the ladies. They have materially contributed towards the success of our sales by adequately providing for the wants of tile inner man. We are much Indebted to the ladies, and hope in the near future to be able to show our appreciation of their good work in a practical manner. We would also tender to the officials of the local A. and P. Society our thanks' for valuable assistance. Especially dp we thank the worthy president of that body, and Mr. T. Giddy, for their personal interest in our sales. We are indeed fortunate to have at our disposal such an ideal spot as the showgrounds whereat to hold our sales. ° A successful field day was held at Mr. A. J. Luxton’s farm at Omftta in
March last. Mr. H. E. B. Watson, the official demonstrator for the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, was in attendance, and imparted to those present solne sound knowledge and instruction on the points of the I Jersey. During the' year Mr. E. Griffiths, through pressure of other business, found it ini}K>ssible to continue as secretary of the cluib, a position which he has filled for many years with honor to himself and credit to tho club. Every member knows that Mr. Griffiths has spared neither time nor energy in an j endeavor to promote the interests of i the Jersey, and we are happy to say that whilst he has relinquished the ]>osition of secretary he still maintains his keen interest in the breed, and is ever ready to place his superior knowledge and wide experience at our disposal. Your committee has appointed Mr. W. P. Okey as secretary of the club. Preliminary steps have been taken to ' have the club incorporated under the “Incorporated Societies’ Act. 1908.” Provisional rules have been prepared, and these will be submitted to members for ’confirmation at the annual meeting, together with the proposal that the club bo incorporated. We are indebted to . Colonel C. H. Weston for having framed i the provisional rules, and having directed ue in the matter of obtaining corporation.
