■■ TAXATION PER HEAD. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Suva, Dec. S. The Legislative Council is sitting. The taxation committee recommended fresh taxation, namely, £1 per head annually on the male residents, excluding Fijians, between 16 and 17 who are British subjects or of European descent, or South Pacific Islanders; secondly, a tax of £6 on other males, reducible io £2 when engaged in agricultural or public works; thirdly, non-European and non-British immigrants pay an immigration fee of £5O before landing.
The recommendations were not approved by the Secretary of State. The elected members unanimously protested. The committee also recommends a tax of one-half per cent, on exports and one per cent, on imports. cially has been entirely successful, the
