The hitter feeling existing on the waterfront over British seamen signing on as volunteers on the “black” ships culminated in a brutal attack on British seamen at Miller’s Point, when one of them was savagely beaten and kicked, and a* a result he was taken to hospital. During the melee women danced on the footpath, howling encouragement to the attackers, until the police arrived and dispersed the crowd.
