The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., Hamilton, report as follows on stock sales held in the Waikato last week: The beef markets are well supplied and values hve somewhat eased. The freezing companies have commenced operations in a small way, but so far have not been successful in maintaining steadiness. The mutton market is everywhere very firm, but supplies are limited. Competition for lambs among exporters has been very keen, and started earlier than in previous years. Speaking generally the market for store cattle is somewhat easier, though occasional briskness is apparent. Forward bullocks are still In demand, but cows in the same condition have declined. Young steers are steady at late rates. Empty heifers of good quality are also required, bnt the rougher sorts seldom Induce competition. Jersey heifers maintain their prominence, and good values are everywhere obtainable. The store sheep markets still continue very bare. Competition is keen for all lots submitted, and values rule higher than the outlook so far warrants. The yardings of dairy cattle in general are small, but competition continues for animals at profit. Pigs are appearing on the market in large quantities. Values have declined for baconers. Store pigs also are easier.
