CLEAN BATTLE.
RESTRICTIONS IN BRITAIN REMOVING EMBARGO. By Telegraph.—Pr»s» Ann.—Copyright. Received Dec. 8, 8.35 p.m. London, Dec. 7. In the House of Commons, the Minister of Agriculture (Sir R. A. Sanders) moved the second reading of the Imports-' tion of Animals Bill, removing the embargo against Canadian cattle. Mr. Harbison, the only Nationalist member from Ulster, moved the rejection of the Bill on the ground that it insists on the quarantine and detention of Irish cattle as well as Canadian, thus compromising free trade between Ireland and England, which was one of the fundamental principles of the recent treaty. Mr. Charles Craig and Mr. O’Connor took a similar view. Mr. Pretyman, supporting the Bill, said the committee which inquired into the recent foot-and-mouth disease outbreak intended to recommend that imported cattle might be marketed on landing day, but must then be detained for six days. The rejection of the motion was defeated by 379 votes to 27.
