Fourteen members of the deck of the Moeraki resented the appearance of volunteers, and refused duty. The company thereupon issued warrants for their arrests. They were sentenced tq seven days’ hard labor. The company announced the arrests would not affect sailing, as the seamen’s places would Ibe filled by volunteers. MOERAKI TO SAIL. Sydney, Dec. 7. There is heavy booking of passengers for the Moeraki, despite the alarmist circulars issued by the Communists, urging people not to trust their lives to volunteer labour. The vessel is set down to sail on Friday afternoon. Passengers will be conveyed in ferries to the steamer down the harbour. The stewards, wharf labourers, trolly and dray men have decided to maintain their neutrality. Auckland, December 7. The crew -of the Wilson Cement Company’s steamer Mahurangi gave 24 hours’ notice and left the vessel on her arrival here this morning. The Union Company will recommission the Kaiapoi shortly. Wellington, December 7. At a stop-work meeting on Tuesday the watersiders solemnly burned a copy of the new award, having first passed a resolution ordering the action, the object being to .bring before the public the alleged unfair treatment of the watersiders in tbe matter of th(J wage standard.
