TARANAKI TEACHERS.
MEETING OF THE INSTITUTE. A general meeting of the Taranaki Teachers’ Institute was held at Stratford on Saturday. 'Mr. W. A. Curteis presided over an attendance of 20 teachers. The sum of one guinea was donated to the fund for a presentation to Mr. A. Erskine, recently retired from the New Zealand Educational Institute. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the widow of the late Mr. D. b. Henderson, of Hawera school. Mr. Curteis proposed that the institute place on record its appreciation of the value of the services of Mr. J. Thomas as a teacher and a member of the institute, and wishes him many happy years of well-earned retirement. Mr. G. A. Lyall seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr. Insull, secretary of the Education Board, addressed the meeting on the subject of manual classes. Many questions were answered as <o the value and necessity of these classes, and much information given for their improved working in the future. Mr. Insull was heartily thanked for attending the meeting.
